There are other ways to see the hotels via the trolleys and the monorails, but walking is the best way to experience the breathtaking scope and detail of the city that has been built for pure entertainment. Fremont Street
This street was where it all began, from a small railroad stop at the turn of the century to one of the brightest streets in the world. Fremont street was one of the best places to cruise in a convertible car for decades but now the street has been closed off to traffic and it is a pedestrian paradise lined with kiosks, souvenir shops and of course plenty of casinos. Up above an arched steel canopy lights up the night sky with an animated, electronic show that spans the entire four blocks of Fremont Street.

Las Vegas has become a modern mecca for shopping. Lake Mead Marina
The Lake Mead Marina is a jumping off point for water sports enthusiasts who sail, fish, water ski and scuba dive. Lake Mead, with its shoreline of more than 550 miles, is the reservoir created by the construction of Hoover Dam, which spans the Colorado River. Lake Mead Marina is also the direct neighbor of Boulder Beach. It is located about 30 miles from Las Vegas, on Lake Shore Drive which is Highway 166 on maps of Lake Mead. This is also the closest marina to Hoover Dam. If you intend to launch or rent a boat and visit Hoover Dam from the lake, this would be the best place to start from. There are excellent facilities here.

The welcome Las Vegas sign greets visitors arriving by car. The neon sign is a treasured icon that is a part of the city's history. The famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign sits alone at the South end of the strip and is often the very first sign a traveler encounters when entering the strip. It casts a surprisingly powerful glow over the barren median which it stands. It stands as a gateway to the extravaganza that is Las Vegas. When leaving the main drag headed south the sign has an equal effect of being a lone gateway in and out of the Strip.
